First, because GOD IS SPIRIT. Second, because beyond the glitz and glam of a ceremony is a very real, inevitable, spiritual reality to be stewarded under God and Him alone. I thank God often for not haven been married earlier because honestly, I simply wasn’t ready. Not even close.
I randomly stumbled on a tik tok saga recently of a real life marriage disintegrating in real time and I certified that unless GOD goes before me in this thing, I’m not entering. The wedding is fun because you have great aesthetics (and the accompanying funds) but the marriage afterwards can only be fun because GOD orchestrated it.
Honestly, the examples social media has exposed me to since my parents died (because I can’t remember being on there beyond posting and walking away before they did) I could have sworn off the institution entirely by now but for God and the foundational example of my parent’s marriage.
I refuse the wholesale narrative of “men are scum, all women are 304s, baby mamas, single wives” or whatever other labels the devil is peddling on these streets for both genders these days. In God I have arrived at the perspective that (from the example of the first ever marriage) it was never an arrangement to be ventured into without GOD’s express, intimate, intentional and personal involvement. GOD HIMSELF TOOK EVE TO ADAM. Okweya? Why are you taking yourself or allowing others to take you any where? If God no dey there, ma, sir, you done miss road already.
Marriage wasn’t Miss Eve’s idea or responsibility, or even Mr Adam’s for that matter. It was entirely GOD’s (YHWH’s). No other “god”, no person, including yourself can ever lead you there SUCCESSFULLY.
Since success is the aim in everything, a couple of these things are mandatory for and must be accepted by sons and daughters of YHWH…1) He is in the business is match making arranged marriages in His Kingdom. 2) The men are made, prepped and certified as ready by Him. 3) The women are extracted, and formed by Him, usually in the absence of the man (most likely while he’s unconscious or asleep) 4) He (GOD) alone decides the right time and place. 5) He personally does the introduction.
If any of these are missing, you have already missed road. Whoever told you that any other spirit or human outside of God has the license to authorize a marriage, has lied to you. Period. No wonder, marriages are the devil’s favorite battle fields. Therefore, stand in God and Brace thy selves.
