Wait, Slim & Wealthy Is White?
Question; when did we decide that? I missed that particular memo.
It has been truly fascinating to watch the different takes of commentators on the internet about the “event” of a group of women who decided to lose weight. I was intrigued for a number of reasons because in the process A LOT was uncovered. The top responses leaned along the lines of “they now want to present as white” and “they no longer want the BLACK MALE GAZE” to which I responded, WHAT? what are these words you’re saying? what do they mean? because here’s what is implied by it (written in the fine print of course)
- that they were “presenting as black” when they wore larger-sized clothes and were poorer.
- and that in their “fatter” and poorer era, they were only seeking the attention (the gaze) of “black men” because that’s what these men are attracted to and that NOW THAT THEY ARE SLIMMER and wealthier they have intentionally become what the “whiter man” physically prefers.
I’ll just let that one sink in for a bit.
Here I was just learning that the “male gaze” and “female gaze” even exist as cultural concepts and are ACTUALLY a thing and now I’m being told oh no, it goes wayyyy deeper than that Honey, there is a “white male gaze”, a “black male gaze”….etc. Wow. Just wow.
Are People Pissed Or Something?
Well, kind of. You know how you’re angry about something but can’t or wont say and so you just find yourself lashing out at other minuscule and unrelated things? Yes, I think the “black community” and the “white people” alike are both showing signs of it. Honestly guys, I can’t think of a dumber categorisation of people. What do you mean by black and white? We all literally come from one family, didn’t you hear there was a flood that killed everyone on earth and only one family survived!?
Watching even “Christians” subscribing to this crap and i’m thinking, sir, you cant have it both ways. The book of God is either correct and you believe it or you don’t. Where in the Bible was anyone called “black or white or brown?” There are literally only 70 nations in the world (the current number of countries came out of that) and each one of us belongs one or a mix of those 70 that came from the 3 sons of Noah who came off that infamous ark with their wives. THAT’S IT.
Back to the topic, apparently, you can see some of the symptoms here because Kim’s episode on the Goop Podcast got these kinds of responses. Yikes.
Thou Shalt Not Follow Trends.
Is the “baddie body” out? If you got “ass shots” because of Kim and Khloe, now what? Thanks to K-pop, thin is back in so are you going to hop on that too?
Be Careful, Be Happy.
For the young girls watching these body trends, remember that you only have one body and If you lose it there’s no spare. Beauty is great but staying safe in its purist is also wise. I will say though that whatever the methods these women have used, they both seem genuinely happy and so we should be for them.
Some final thoughts. That first image of Kim in this blog is of her at al event where she recently wore an old dress famously owned and worn by Marilyn Monroe who wasn’t even “Marilyn Monroe”. The woman known as “Marylin” was an actress whose real name is Norma Jeane Mortenson. Marylin Monroe was just some kind of alter ego, “a role” written for her by her employers which she played in “real life”. I’ve known of her for a while but after watching the new biopic about her life, she has quickly become a very serious cautionary tale to me about the need to be very careful about who you “idolise” or choose to emulate and allow to influence you. Not only was she tremendously unhappy, but she also died a tragic and lonely death at a young age. If you do some research, you’ll be shocked to find that this type of horrible end of her story isn’t that uncommon for the famous and pretty women of history who lived their lives not being grounded in God, so, watch yourself and stay safe guys.
Lastly, whenever I need perspective on the true view of the reality of fame, I try to remember that there are in-fact 8 billion people on Earth. As far as we know right now, there is no one with even half that number of people following them on any social media just yet, not even 1 billion. So, before you go “a-worshipping“, and forfeiting moral standards of God and allowing yourself be drowned in all the FOMO that happens sometimes, perhaps lets all just take a beat reeeeal quick instead and recalibrate our vantage points so that we can see things and people and situations in their correct proportions and then get back to carry on living our lives without pressure while stayed on the paths God has purposed each of us. Doing the things you are here to do is where true fulfilment and peace comes from. OK? Ciao.
