Hot Old Couples On Italian Streets.
I just realized that Paris being called the “city of love” must be an inside joke of some sort because all it offers is the highlight reel experiences. What evidence is there of Love amongst the French? Or even of them being loving to other countries? Name one. They are not known for love in any actual sense of the word. What they have is a talent and excellent taste in designing highlight moments in highly “instagramable” locations/aesthetics. The “fluff of love”.
On the other hand, Italy is world renowned for its value of the fruits of Love. In my time in Italia one thing was made abundantly clear, these people cherish family (familia) and marriage. Italian men especially are famously known for this quality. The countless number of silver haired older couples I saw on the streets, making out and holding hands and just doing life whilst exquisitely dressed in luxury clothing not only made me want that for myself but it showed me what was possible. Wrong relationships are overhyped and propped up on pedestals in the world while the right ones are ignored by society. I’m committed to doing the exact opposite.
Romance is easy, love is harder to commit to. A nice date in a fancy place is easy but doing life in the ordinary, mundane everyday unglamorous things, that is real love. In love, the glitzy days are accepted with and as cherished as the regular ones. The instagram worthy moments with the messy ones. At least that’s what I want for my marriage.
I thank GOD often for allowing me see these amazing couples in Italy. Whether they were rich or poor the message was simple. “We have loved each other for a long time and we’re both committed to completing our time on earth together and in style”. What a great example to have been reinforced in my mind over and over for that whole year. I hadn’t considered what it meant to me until now but that was very lovely. By the way, I’m very glad to no longer be afraid, ashamed or confused about the love I want and will have one day. Actually feels really nice.
Grazie Mille Italia. 😘
